Welcome to The Life of Adventure Blog!! (Home of the Adventure Camel!)
“Adventure isn’t hanging on a rope off the side of a mountain. Adventure is an attitude that we must apply to the day to day obstacles of life.” — John Amatt
Why is this site here and what will it do for you? This site is intended to inspire, motivate, and educate you to live a life of adventure. This will lead you to a fuller, more satisfying existence. It will help you find a reason to choose the activities you fill your life with. Why do you do the work you do? Why do you workout? Why do you do anything? I’ll show you that your Life of Adventure can be the answer to those questions and how to get there.
When you think of “adventure” what images come to mind? I’m willing to bet it’s someone standing triumphant on a mountain summit, skydivers giving a thumbs up to the camera at 10,000 feet, a fighter pilot thundering into the sky, or something else of the sort. What if the first picture in your mind was your own face in the mirror? Try it right now; think “adventure” and picture yourself in a mirror for 10 seconds. Try to remember what you visualized. What “adventure gear” did you see yourself wearing? Is it hiking gear? Maybe a leather jacket and fedora? When you opened your eyes, did you have a smile on your face?
My goal with this blog is to ensure that when you picture “adventure” in your mind, the first image should be one of yourself. In this picture, you shouldn’t be wearing or doing anything special; it should be your good old, everyday self. Maybe wearing a suit, khakis and a polo, a food stained chef’s coat, or the yoga pants and sweat shirt you wear to pick up the kids. “That’s not adventure” you might say. Well, I disagree! Every time you think of adventure, you should be thinking of yourself.
Why in the world would you want to do this? Because you are wired to appreciate and be motivated by adventure in your life. Don’t believe me? You say “but I hate hiking!” Doesn’t matter, because it’s not specifically about a physical activity, but about your attitude as you approach everything in your life. Yes, for some people, adventure means walking for miles, sleeping under the stars, eating roots they dug up, and communing with nature. However, others feel adventurous when they crunch numbers for hours in an accounting office, write computer code overnight because they just can’t stop, or teach their kids a new skill. Adventure is passion. Adventure is an uncontrollable, big, goofy grin on your face after an accomplishment. Adventure is that thing you love doing but nobody understands why. A Life of Adventure can be lived everyday, no matter what your setting, because it’s an attitude.
So, moving forward from this post, I hope you’re intrigued. There’s nothing to sell you, so all I ask is you think about this for a bit and then come back to the next post. Why? Simple, because then I’ll tell you who the Adventure Camel is! (You know you’re wondering…)
